Observing how matter changes through experiments The Monetary Authority of Singapore started issuing these 1 cent coins in 1987. They were withdrawn from circulation in 2012. They were made from copper-plated zinc. Ms. Iris had a collection of these coins and we carried out an experiment to observe if there will be any change. Before we dipped it into the vinegar and salt solution we made, we all made a prediction of the outcome. "I think the rust will dissolve and the water will be dirty", "I think it will be the same", "The rust will get out of the coins". We dipped half of the coin in and some of us where able to see a visible change. At the end, we recorded the results of the experiment to compare it with our hypothesis. Some of us were able to use vocabulary to describe the change in matter, "It turned shiny", "dirty", "clean", "It was clean and it was silver". Estimates and MeasureGrade Twos were busy measuring the space around them, trying to make sense of what they read in centimetres and metres. They came up with ideas to problem solve on how to add those 150 cm long measuring tapes up by repeated addition and multiplication. They also came up with creative ways to measure a designated space. Characters for Primary VillageWe drew different monsters for Free Dress Friday to decorate our door and we walked around the Primary Village to collect ideas to use in our story. We also went to explore an exhibit that was put up by our Librarian, Ms. Maricela and we chanced upon some really funny doors on our way back from the exhibit. Home Language Books WeekSome of our friends shared their favourite books with us in a different language. We had lots of questions to what they were reading, and we were amazed by how beautiful different languages can sound!
