"Today's my best day!" "Best day ever!" We closed our Grade 2's first semester with an epic week of fun. House GamesEach class will have about 10 minutes to do as many laps around the designated area in Lion’s Den by walking, skipping or running, and gaining 1 point each lap for their House. Each time a student crosses the finish line, they will be given an elastic band around their wrist. High School Cartooning and Illustrations Exhibition We all enjoyed reading the images created by the different artists in high school. We each had a favourite piece and found it really interesting to read the artist's profile. Keepsake Bracelet Bands and Ice LolliesSharing a memory of making bracelets and enjoying ice lollies together on the last day of our first semester. We also had a fun time at the library today.

Assembly HostsGrade Two shared their learning in this unit with the whole Primary Village. They worked as a team, volunteering to share the different parts of the assembly. They practised, rehearsed and received very good feedback from the first school assembly they hosted. Well done Grade Twos! Assembly Powerpoint SlidesOur video, shared during the school assemblyVisible Thinking Routine: See Think Wonder“Learning is a consequence of thinking, not something extra we tack on for good measure but something in which we must actively engage to promote our own and others’ learning.” - Ron Ritchhart, Creating Cultures of Thinking (2015) Using the visible thinking routine, the Grade Two students wrote down their observations of what they see. They then use their inferencing skills to decide what they think about their observations. They are encouraged to support their thinking with reasons. Lastly, they were asked to write down what they wonder, what else might be happening within or outside the pictures. Some of the images we looked at included David Wiesner’s picture books, Pablo Picasso and Vincent Van Gogh art works. We applied the visible thinking routine and also responded to some of those art work by interpreting what they were trying to convey. To have a sense of how big some of these famous artworks were, we used our math abilities in measurement to put the dimensions down (3.5 m tall, 7.8 m wide) at the multi-purpose hall for Guernica (Picasso). We wondered how he was able to get such a large piece of canvas to work on, where he would have worked on this, and was also very impressed by how Picasso was able to complete such a large piece of work within 3 weeks!
