What do you see?Different images of graphic novels, road signs etc. were put up around the classroom for the students to do a gallery walk as we began the unit How We Express Ourselves with the central idea: Images express meaning. We had a fun reflection, giving our perspective and interpretation to each image, and to discover the ideas these images wanted to convey. MathsOne of the things we really enjoyed, was to get our hands on learning about volume and capacity. We learned about the metric system, where milli means one thousandth. We practice making estimates and reading the jugs in millilitres, and also in how we can convert those readings into litres. 2D and 3D shapesWe played a game of shape match, making drawings of the shapes we know and writing the names of those we were unfamiliar with. We managed to sort them out into 2D and 3D very quickly! LiteracyInspired from the Unit of Inquiry gallery walk, we created 3D animals out of paper. When we look at it from a distance with one eye closed, they look like they have their eyes locked on looking at us. We also picked the background setting to our story afterwards, to tell a story using what we have put together. As writers, we learned that revision and editing is part of the process of writing and the purpose of revision is to help get our ideas in focus. We will try to practice that as part of our writing process.
